How To Get Ears To Stand On Your Pembroke Welsh Corgi Puppy

HOW TO TAPE UP EARS ON PEMBROKE WELSH CORGI PUPPIES

If a Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy is small and from small parents, their ears usually stand on their own at a young age. If a Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy is medium to large and from medium to large parents you will often need to tape up their ears. This process may result in ears up anytime between 8 to 16 weeks old. The faster the puppy is growing the longer it will take to get their ears to stand.

We usually do 1 or 2 attempts at taping prior to sending puppies to their new homes. You can start taping when you get your Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy, but definitely start taping if the ears are not standing by 10 weeks old.

STEPS TO TAPE PEMBROKE WELSH CORGI EARS:
1: Cut or tear a piece of masking tape to go around an ear 1 to 2 times.
2: Hold an ear in a standing position, and wrap the masking tape around the ear. Leave the bottom of the ear open for air circulation and sound.
3: Repeat for the second ear.

Keep the ears taped up for 3 days, and during that time replace or add tape if needed. After those 3 days carefully remove the tape, and let the ears rest for 1 to 3 days to prevent skin irritation. If an ear still doesn't stand, repeat as needed.

Adding more calcium and protein to the Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy's diet might help the ears to stand. On large Pembroke Welsh Corgis it's common for one or both ears to repeatedly stand and fall, so just keep taping. Don't be frightened if it takes 14 weeks for an ear to stand.

If an ear hangs down for 3 to 6 months without attempts to tape, it can result in an ear that never stands. We've never had that happen to our own Pembroke Welsh Corgis.
